The LaoBaci Ceremony
The Baci ceremony (also known as Sou Khuan) is a deeply revered Laotian ritual rooted in animism and Buddhism. Its purpose is to call back any wandering spirits (kwan) to the body and restore spiritual harmony before major life events, such as weddings, births, travels, or welcoming guests.

How the Ceremony Works
The Altar
A beautifully arranged centerpiece called a pah kwan (made of banana leaves, flowers, and candles) is placed in the center of the room. White cotton strings are draped from this centerpiece to the participants to channel blessings.
The Blessing
A respected village elder or former monk chants prayers and softly strokes the participants' heads with candles to transfer good energy and invite the spirits back.
Tying the Threads
Once the chants conclude, the elder and attendees tie white cotton or silk threads around the wrists of the recipients while whispering heartfelt wishes for health, luck, and prosperity.
